I was fortunate enough to get a scholarship to go to Italy over break! Here are some of the sketches I did while there.

25 paintings in a week

So here are some plein air paintings I've done in the past week. They're all about 6x10 inches, roughly. 

Power of Nature

These two paintings were done in about 2 and a half weeks. I was told to go outside and work from life, I did plein air paintings to bring back into the studio and work on these mammoths. I just had my critique on them two days ago and I got through alright. They're both 5x5 feet, 2008.

Man Vs. Nature

These are two paintings of a series of three done from October to November 2007. My professors pushed me to switch to oil on these.Man vs. Nature 1

The second painting was much more loose, my teachers forced me to experiment with new mediums and different ways of applying paint. For the top half- the "nature" half, it was a traditional easel painting. For the "man" half- the junk pile, I put it on the floor and treated it like Pollack treated his paintings, literally throwing paint, in addition to using cold wax, linseed oil, sand, paper towels, cigarette butts, and even the blade of my broken palette knife. I should maybe upload some close up shots so you can see the marks. I had fun on this one.

So these are some of my paintings from a year ago til a couple days ago. They were all done for school, and i'll list them from oldest to newest. Any feedback is welcome! 

Godlight- April 2007 Acyric, cat vomit on Board 3x4 feet

This painting was a breakthrough for me at the time. I'd never worked this large, and i'd never been so proud of a piece i've done before. It was the last painting in my "Objects, Space and Places" course with Professor Philip Brou, and I owe him a lot for getting me this far. It got damaged in the move back here to Vermont(the mark in the middle of the main beam of light), and one of my cats puked all down the left side of it, but hopefully you can't see that.
